Undermount Sink Fallen Below Granite Countertop. Bracket Failure and Reinstallation

An undermount sink is held in place entirely from below – by a combination of silicone adhesive and mounting clips fastened to the underside of the stone. When those clips loosen, corrode, or were not installed correctly in the first place, the sink gradually pulls away from the countertop or drops suddenly. This photo shows exactly that: the stainless steel sink has separated from the granite above, leaving a visible gap around the entire rim.
The fix requires removing the sink completely, cleaning off the old dried silicone from both the stone and the sink flange, and reattaching with fresh adhesive and properly tensioned mounting hardware. The caulk line around the rim is then renewed to create a watertight seal.
Left unaddressed, a sagging sink is not just cosmetic. Water gets behind the rim, soaks into the cabinet below, and in granite countertops the repeated moisture exposure can eventually lead to the same rusted-rod cracking described in other cases. A quick reinstallation prevents a much larger repair bill later.
