DuPont Corian Restroom Countertop with Sink Cutouts Before Polishing

DuPont Corian is a solid surface material made from acrylic polymer and alumina trihydrate. It does not have the porous structure of natural stone, which means it resists deep staining, but the surface still dulls over time from daily contact with cleaning chemicals, abrasive wipes, and general wear. In high-traffic commercial restrooms this process accelerates, and a once-glossy surface can become flat and lifeless within a few years.

Restoring a Corian surface involves countertop restoration through wet sanding to remove the compromised surface layer, followed by polishing compounds to rebuild the sheen. The sinks are removed beforehand to allow full access to the edges and surrounds. Caution tape visible in this image indicates the area is out of service during the job.

The end result of this type of service is a uniform, clean surface that looks close to new. Because Corian is a consistent solid material throughout its thickness, it can be sanded and refinished multiple times without structural compromise, making it well suited to long-term commercial use.
