Metal Rodding on Bust Head/Holes Drilling
Commonly we use metal rods, that are compatible with marble and will provide the necessary strength and support. Metal rods are commonly used for larger sculptures, while fiberglass mesh may be suitable for smaller or more delicate pieces.
To drill holes we use diamond-coated or electroplated drill bits, and carefully drill holes into the marble body at strategic locations along the areas that require reinforcement. The placement of the holes will depend on the specific shape of the sculpture.
Then we test the depth by inserting the reinforcement rods into the drilled holes, ensuring a snug fit. Then we fill up the holes with an appropriate amount of colored flowing epoxy, to bond the rods securely into the marble. Allowing the epoxy to cure according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
By metal rodding, you can effectively reinforce a marble bust head to ensure its long-term stability and strength.
