Marble honing (lackluster) is the last step on the way to creating a beautiful sparkling countertop. However, this is not quite the same as polishing marble to shine finish.
The purpose of polishing is to create a mirror texture of the top layer of marble, in which the contours of surrounding objects will be clearly reflected.
The purpose of honing is to create a matte or eggshell surface, with very little or no reflection at all.
